Course Description
In general music class we strive to incorporate the NYS standards for the arts and common core standards. The following materials will be covered in 6th grade general music. The italicized materials will seem familiar from previous years, but will be covered more in depth. Reading by intervals; Tempo, Dynamics, Meter, Mode; Rhythm; Music composing; Form (AB, ABA, Rondo, Motifs); Instrument Voicing (band, orchestra, chorus); Composers through-out history; Instrumental performance; Careers in Music

- Pencil
In-Person Classroom Rules
- Students are expected to arrive to class on time and prepared with a pencil, chromebook and any homework (homework only occurs when students don’t finish work in class).
- Students are expected to follow the class rules.
- Students are expected to show respect for themselves, their classmates, the teacher and the instruments in the room.
- Students are expected to participate to the best of their ability.
Remote Classroom Rules
- Students are expected to attend google meets prepared with a pencil and music materials (these will be sent home via PDF or a hard copy can be picked up at school). Some materials and assignments may be provided through MusicFirst
- Students are expected to participate to the best of their ability.
- Students need to submit weekly assignments (counts for remote attendance). This work will be assigned on Friday to be due the following Friday so that students can plan accordingly.
- Students can sign up for additional meet times if necessary.
